Kate is currently the Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, as well as, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Kate is a long time Canberrian who left school at 16 and became a labourer, removing asbestos from buildings which led her to lifetime interest of standing up for workplace issues. She joined the Labor Party at 18, and held a number of leadership roles with them and other organisations before being elected to the Senate in the Australian Federal Parliament in 1996. Since then, Senator Lundy has participated in every Senate Inquiry relating to telecommunications and Information Technology over the last fourteen years. She has further spearheaded Gov 2.0 initiatives such as her Public Sphere events which facilitate online public collaboration on policy development. Her work in this area has led to a number of recognitions including one in September where she was selected as one of the international “Top 10 Who Are Changing the World of Internet and Politics”. This award was given by PoliticsOnline and the World eDemocracy Forum.
Kate is mother and stepmother of 5 children and an active rower.
